SALARY RANGE: $31,416.79 - $39,270.98 Annually
APPOINTING AUTHORITY: Administrator
GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
The employee in this classification, under the supervision of an assigned supervisor, is responsible for the planning, development, organization, implementation and evaluation of activity and recreation programs in accordance with current Federal, State and local standards as well as established Facility policies and procedures; plans, directs and supervises the activities of assigned staff; performs related duties as directed.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Assists supervisor in planning, developing, organizing, implementing and evaluating policies and procedures that identify the needs of the residents that can be addressed through the activity programs in the Facility.
- Develops and implements activity plans, schedules and resident assessments; arranges transportation for trips and assists bed residents as necessary.
- Plans, directs and supervises the activities of assigned staff.
- Maintains pertinent documentation on residents in accordance with established policies and procedures.
- Creates and maintains an activity schedule, available projects, crafts and resources.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS (continued):
- Evaluates department personnel and conducts competency evaluations of staff on an annual and PRN basis.
- Assists supervisor in hiring, disciplining and/or termination of department personnel.
- Meets with staff on a regular basis to assist in identifying and correcting problem areas, and/or the improvement of services.
- Identifies unsafe and/or hazardous conditions, equipment, incidents and/or accidents and writes reports as needed.
- Develops a departmental budget and monitors expenditures with direction from supervisor.
- Assists in the development of and participates in orientation and in-service training programs for facility personnel, activity and recreation department, staff and volunteers.
- Coordinates the resident volunteer program.
EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE:
- A Bachelor Degree in Recreation Therapy from an accredited college or university and Certification through the National Therapeutic Recreation Society is preferred.
- Some college education in Recreation Therapy with five (5) years of experience required. Prefer some supervisory experience.
- Previous experience in a therapy related field in a medical care facility, long term care or hospital setting.
- Successful completion of the probationary period for the position Resident Activity & Recreation Supervisor.
- Be physically able to perform the essential duties of the position, with or without reasonable accommodation.

ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS:
- Ability to seek out new methods and principles and incorporate them into existing activity programs.
- Prefer knowledge of Long Term Care regulations.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint.

- Demonstrated patience, pleasant disposition and enthusiasm, and the ability to handle residents and families on whatever maturity level they are currently functioning.
- Possess the desire to work with the aged and the disabled and have an understanding of the social, psychological, and recreational needs of the elderly.
- Possess the ability to direct and motivate residents, staff and volunteers.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, residents, residents' families and volunteers.
- Effective written and oral communication skills.
- Ability to produce computer reports, posters, banners, announcements and documented summaries.
- Ability to maintain the confidentiality of resident care.
- Ability to conduct oneself with tact and courtesy.
